Wood does not belong outside

An outdoor cabinet is a different product, not an indoor one with a tougher finish. Wood swells when it rains and shrinks when it dries, and that cycle opens joints, splits panels and lifts finish. Painted surfaces chalk and peel under UV. Moisture invites mold, and untreated wood invites insects. Plenty of outdoor kitchens get built with indoor cabinetry, and most of them look rough inside of three seasons.

What marine grade HDPE actually is

Open Air cabinets are cut from solid 3/4" high density polyethylene, the same class of polymer used in dock and marine applications. The color runs all the way through the panel rather than sitting on top of it, so there is no paint or laminate to fade, chip or peel, and a scratch does not expose a different color underneath. Sun Shield UV treatment protects against fading. The material does not rust, rot, warp, swell or delaminate, and it does not support mold or bacteria growth.

Hardware that survives the same weather

A cabinet box is only as durable as what holds it together. Every hinge is 304 stainless concealed and fully adjustable. Drawers and shelves ride on 304 stainless full extension ball bearing slides with a quick release lever, so they stay smooth when loaded and come out easily for cleaning. Nothing in the assembly corrodes.

Food safe and close to maintenance free

HDPE is FDA approved for food contact and free of BPA and phthalates, so prep surfaces and storage are safe for actual cooking rather than just staging. Cleaning is soap and water. There is nothing to reseal, restain or repaint, ever.

Built to order in Pennsylvania

Every cabinet is CNC cut to spec at Open Air's shop in Olyphant, Pennsylvania, from panels containing recycled content sourced locally. Made to order means you get the configuration your space actually needs instead of forcing a layout around stock sizes. It also means a lead time, so plan your build accordingly.
